Quite simply, the HP BL Blade Series consists of a server enclosure that can hold from 8 to 20 individual blades.  The blades share a common backplane and common power supplies via the enclosure.  You can place as many as 192 blade servers into a standard 42U hardware rack.

In addition, patch panels, switches and controllers are then attached to the base enclosure and the individual Blades can then access them.  Each Blade consists of one or two Intel^® Xeon^®, Itanium^®2 or AMD Opteron™ Processors, the associated memory and a disk drive.
