The IBM 3588 Model F4A incorporates the Linear Tape-Open (LTO) IBM Ultrium 4 Tape Drive, with enhanced maximum tape drive throughput over the IBM LTO generation 3 Tape Drive (Ultrium 3). It has a native data transfer of up to 120 MB/sec. In addition, with the use of the IBM LTO Ultrium 800 GB Data Cartridge, the TS1040 doubles the maximum tape cartridge capacity providing up to 800 GB native physical capacity (1,600 GB with 2:1 compression), as compared to the IBM Ultrium 3 Tape Drives and cartridges. IBM Ultrium 4 Tape Drives can read and write LTO Ultrium 3 Data Cartridges and read LTO Ultrium 2 Data Cartridges. The TS1040 has a 4-Gbps Fibre Channel interface for connection to a wide spectrum of open system servers.
